The conclusion of the second training program of the Tarabot project to enhance community participation in the city of Al Ghaydah.

The second training program, "Enhancing Community Participation for Peace and Security," for law enforcement officers and community committees in Al Ghaydah, Al Mahrah Governorate, concluded as part of the Tarabut project. The program, implemented by the Paths to Peace Foundation (PPF), and supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the small grants mechanism of the United Nations Peace Support Facility (PSF), was attended by Mr. Salem Saidan, Director General of Al Ghaydah District, and Colonel Mohammed Al Idrisi, representative of the General Directorate of Security and Police.


The five-day training workshop, attended by 20 participants from the second group in Al Ghaydah District, aims to contribute to the development and capacity-building of law enforcement officers and community committees, enhance their contribution to conflict resolution and local mediation, and strengthen close ties between security agencies, community committees, and citizens.


At the conclusion of the workshop, Ali Saidan, General Director of Al Ghaydah District, noted that this program represents a qualitative addition to the city of Al Ghaydah, enhancing the role of neighborhood leaders, security, and police in resolving local community conflicts. He hoped it would enhance community engagement and enable trainees to contribute effectively to their daily lives and community issues. He also praised the organizations' interventions in building local community capacity.


The trainer provided participants with an understanding of the concepts of community safety and community participation, as well as peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and local mediation in the community. He also introduced the mechanisms of conflict and dispute resolution, and methods for resolving them according to a scientific methodology for conflict resolution mechanisms. They also learned about the types of conflicting parties in the community, the concepts and steps of dialogue and negotiation, mediation and arbitration, the steps for resolving local conflicts and building community peace, and the importance of interconnectedness and coordination between security and community committees and their combined roles.


For his part, Colonel Mohammed Al-Idrisi, representative of the General Directorate of Security and Police in Al Mahrah Governorate, praised the quality of participation in creating an interactive space for dialogue between security and community committees. He emphasized that capacity building and community dialogue contribute to enhancing security, stability, and peace in society. The closing ceremony of the workshop was attended by Colonel Zakaria Al-Yousfi, Director General of Security Operations in the Governorate, and Mr. Obaid Waqed, Project Director.
